Vera’s Center on Sentencing and Corrections helps state legislators, judges, corrections commissioners, attorneys general and other officials deal with the substantive needs and political realities that often make sentencing and corrections reform difficult to achieve.  Vera’s research focuses on conducting both evaluations and exploratory research on issues of criminal and social justice.  By providing an integrated mix of research, technical assistance, and planning services, the Center is uniquely positioned to enhance decision-making, improve processes, and support system reforms that impact adult sentencing and corrections policy.

Responsibilities: The intern will work closely with Center on Sentencing and Corrections staff to identify and research key issues in sentencing and corrections policy and practice, Prepare written and briefing and presentation materials for center staff and associates involved in engagements with state clients, and perform some administrative tasks. There will also be opportunities to participate in site visits, attend client meetings, and observe center staff as they work with clients in various capacities.

Qualifications: Candidate should possess a strong interest in sentencing and corrections issues in addition to solid interpersonal, public speaking, research and writing skills.  Students of all majors encouraged to apply.
