Summer 2010 Internship Program

Vera runs an annual summer internship program for undergraduate, graduate, and law school students. Interns typically work full time in one of Vera’s departments or centers and programs; some part-time positions may be available. In addition to working on individual assignments, all interns participate in events organized by the internship coordinator. For example, last summer interns visited Sing Sing Correctional Facility, lunched with executive-level management, and visited Vera demonstration projects.

Guardianship Project Intern (1)

 The Guardianship project is located in downtown Brooklyn.  We provide intensive case management services for people who have been adjudicated "incapacitated" by a court.  Our mission is to provide guardianship through the least restrictive means, giving as much independence and self-determination to the individual as possible.  The project is staffed with a variety of specialized professionals who are experts at navigating such systems as: Medicaid, health care, housing, and public benefits.  We work closely with service providers and advocacy organizations to connect people to appropriate services in their communities.

Responsibilities: The intern will provide a variety of client services, including visiting clients in the community, assessing their needs, communicating with families, and keeping records of services rendered. Extensive travel throughout Brooklyn will be required.

Qualifications: Preference will be given to candidates with strong organization skills, attention to detail, and ability to work as a team member.  Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential.
