Security Guard with Martial Arts Training

Common Justice is a restorative justice-based alternative to incarceration and victim service program for serious and/or violent felony cases such as assault, burglary, and robbery. A demonstration project of the Vera Institute of Justice, the project will bring 16- to 24-year-olds responsible for crimes together with those they have committed the crimes against and their support people in a facilitated dialogue to determine appropriate sanctions to take the place of a jail or prison sentence.

Responsibilities
The project seeks a part-time, contracted security guard with martial arts training to be present at the mediation sessions between the people who committed crimes, the people they committed the crimes against, and their support people. The ideal candidate will have a discreet presence in the sessions but will be ready to maintain peace and safety in the room if a situation arises. The candidate will also be flexible to accommodate the schedule of the sessions as they arise. The position is available immediately.

Qualifications
• New York State Security Guard License required.
• Certified martial arts proficiency strongly preferred.
• High comfort level with volatile and tense situations.
• Willingness to work evenings and weekends.
• Commitment to social justice preferred.

Payment
Fee per case.
