The Vera Institute of Justice is an independent nonprofit organization that combines expertise in research, demonstration projects, and technical assistance to help leaders in government and civil society improve the systems people rely on for safety and justice. Vera’s Center on Sentencing and Corrections (CSC) works with state and local partners to help them develop cost-effective strategies for protecting public safety. CSC accomplishes this by providing non-partisan technical assistance and research support to government officials and criminal justice professionals. The person may work out of either Vera’s New York City or Washington DC offices.

Responsibilities
This is an extraordinary opportunity for an experienced person to join a dynamic and innovative staff. The Senior Program Associate will manage several projects and help grow the work of the center. The following are primary responsibilities:
• Devise, manage, and coordinate assistance to project clients and participants, including intensive on-site assistance in the field.
• Develop, research and write program materials, including publications and briefing and research memoranda.
• Manage and design national meetings and conferences on current issues in sentencing and corrections.
• Develop and maintain relationships with professional colleagues and clients.
• Assist in grant writing and program development.
• Support research staff in interpreting and presenting data analysis and evaluation findings to clients.
• Represent CSC in public speaking engagements and professional meetings.

Qualifications
We are looking for a candidate with the following qualities and skills:
• PhD or master’s degree in political science, criminal justice, criminology, or public policy, or a JD.
• At least ten years of work experience in public policy, law, or government.
• Demonstrated interest in or knowledge of policy development, government, or criminal justice.
• Ability to manage work on multiple projects effectively and efficiently.
• Capacity to analyze and interpret statistical data.
• Willingness to travel outside of New York City frequently.
• Strong interpersonal and communications skills, public speaking ability, and research and writing skills.
• Ability and confidence to facilitate meetings of senior policymakers.
• Willingness and ability to work independently as well as with a team.
