At the Vera Institute of Justice, our mission is to drive change. We are working urgently to build and improve justice systems that ensure fairness, promote safety, and strengthen communities. We work with others who share our vision to tackle the most pressing injustices of our day - from the causes and consequences of mass incarceration, racial disparities, and the loss of public trust in law enforcement, to the unmet needs of the vulnerable, the marginalized, and those harmed by crime and violence.

Vera works in partnership with local, state, and national government officials to create change from within.

The People and Culture department provides human resources services and support for all of Vera’s centers, departments, programs and projects. We have a staff of over 180 people based primarily in New York City (lower Manhattan and Brooklyn), with satellite offices in Washington, DC, New Orleans, and Los Angeles, and a small group of staff working remotely across the country in several locales, including Washington State, Texas, Tennessee, and Ohio.


Our Coordinator supports the work of our People and Culture team in the following areas:

  • Posts jobs, identifies recruitment sources and participates in job fairs.
  • Acts as Onboarding Team Leader by scheduling and processing new staff orientations and paperwork, and new employee support events.
  • Participates in People and Culture Team events; schedules training activities, manages attendance and secures meeting rooms and outside space.
  • Manages employee files and requests for information
  • Provides administrative support including processing payments, organizing travel and meeting scheduling for team

Our ideal candidate has experience in these areas: 

  • ADP Workforce Now or other HRIS systems
  • Excellent organization and communication skills
  • 1 – 3 years’ work experience, preferably in a customer focused environment
  • Tech savvy – able to navigate and troubleshoot job posting sites, online benefit enrollments
  • A genuine interest in human resources operations, talent management, diversity and inclusion efforts
