The Vera Institute of Justice is an independent nonprofit organization that combines expertise in research, demonstration projects, and technical assistance to help leaders in government and civil society improve the systems people rely on for safety and justice. Vera’s Cost-Benefit Analysis Unit (CBAU) performs cost-benefit analyses and other cost-related studies, provides assistance to jurisdictions conducting their own studies, and carries out research to advance the knowledge and application of cost-benefit analysis in the justice system. Responsibilities
The Senior Policy Analyst will work closely with the Director of Technical Assistance to help build the capacity of the CBAU; contribute to the management of the unit; manage projects; develop original materials and content; and devise and deliver technical assistance. This position may offer an opportunity for advancement to an upper-level management role at the Institute. Primary responsibilities are to:
• Take a lead role in new product development, including publications, white papers, a web site, blogs, and podcasts.
• Assist in designing and facilitating national meetings.
• Work with other CBAU staff to conduct cost-benefit analyses.
• Devise, manage, and deliver on- and off-site technical assistance to clients.
• Present findings of cost-benefit and other policy analyses to diverse audiences and represent CBAU at public speaking engagements and professional meetings.
• Develop and maintain relationships with professional colleagues and clients.
• Help identify opportunities for new work and assist in fundraising and grant writing.

Qualifications
Vera seeks a candidate with the following qualities and skills:
• An advanced degree in public policy, criminal justice or related social science fields, economics, finance, or law.
• At least seven years of work experience in public policy, government, or law.
• Strong quantitative skills and experience in cost-benefit analysis, budgeting, economics, or finance strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated knowledge of sentencing and corrections systems, policies, trends and research strongly preferred.
• Excellent communications skills, including writing, editing, listening, public speaking, and meeting facilitation.
• Proven ability in project planning and implementation, including developing and managing budgets.
• Experience with writing proposals and grants.
• Experience managing and supervising staff a plus.
• Willingness to travel.
