The Vera Institute of Justice, a private nonprofit organization, combines expertise in research, demonstration projects, and technical assistance to help leaders in government and civil society improve the systems people rely on for justice and safety. Through its Center on Victimization and Safety (CVS), Vera works to promote innovative practices that address violence against women and it has launched an initiative to enhance the capacity of supervised visitation programs to address issues of domestic violence.

Responsibilities
The Senior Program Associate position, based in Washington, DC, is an extraordinary opportunity for an experienced person to join a dynamic and creative staff. The position offers exposure to leading practitioners in the field of domestic violence. The Senior Program Associate will manage several projects and contribute to the management of the center. Working closely with the Center Director and Project Director, the Senior Program Associate will be responsible for the following essential job functions:
• Devise, manage, and coordinate assistance to program sites in the form of multi-jurisdiction meetings, on-site visits, conference calls, on-line discussions, phone consultations, and other means as appropriate.
• Develop and maintain relationships with associates and sites.
• Conduct literature reviews.
• Review existing policies, practices, and other trends in addressing violence against women.
• Assist in the development of model policies and practices.
• Assist in conducting interviews and focus groups with experts in the field.
• Coordinate the development of web-based resources.
• Represent the program in public speaking engagements and professional meetings.
• Assist on other projects as assigned.

Qualifications
• An advanced academic degree in public policy, public administration, social work, or criminal justice, or equivalent.
• At least six years of work experience in public policy, social services, or government.
• A demonstrated interest in or knowledge of violence against women issues including domestic violence, sexual violence, and/or stalking. Knowledge of custody, supervised visitation, and criminal and family legal systems preferred.
• Experience delivering training and providing technical assistance/consultation is preferred.
• Ability to conduct interviews and facilitate meetings of senior professionals.
• Ability to work effectively with a broad range of people including advocates, law enforcement officers, attorneys, judges, and government officials.
• Excellent critical thinking and communication skills.
• High level of organization and strong attention to detail.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and work independently, as well as with a team.
• Willingness to travel outside of Washington, DC, an average of 2 to 3 times per month, including regular trips to Vera’s main office in New York.
