The Vera Institute of Justice is an independent nonprofit organization that combines expertise in research, demonstration projects, and technical assistance to help leaders in government and civil society improve the systems that people rely on for justice and safety. The Information Technology Department facilitates Vera’s efforts by ensuring the stability and integrity of the institute’s in-house network services.

We are currently seeking a Information Technology Intern to work in our central offices beginning as soon as possible.

The intern will be assigned to assist the Vera’s IT Department staff with providing computer hardware, software and technical support to Vera staff.

The internship is unpaid. In this position, the intern will gain valuable hands-on experience in all aspects of Information Technology. The internship can be used for school credit.


Responsibilities

Updating laptops brought in by Vera staff
Changing printer toners
Rebuilding, configuring and setup of desktops and laptops
Installing software on desktops and laptops
Replacing hardware on desktops and laptops
Providing some level 1 support and monitoring help desk tickets
Assisting the IT staff with certain technology related problems/projects as needed

Qualifications
• A full or part time undergraduate with a 3.0 GPA pursing a B.S degree in Computer Science, Information technology, Information Management or similar discipline or a Technical Vocational school
• Strong technology and analytical skills, attention to detail
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Time Management skills
• Willingness to learn, collaborate and work within a great team.
• Self starter
• Strong MS Office skills, and Windows XP skills
• Excellent interpersonal skills and professional presentation
• Some experience with Windows Server, Active Directory & other Networking technologies (not required)
• Any Microsoft certification or relevant IT certification (would be beneficial)
Compensation
Only applicants receiving academic credit for the internship will be considered.


Schedule
The Information Technology Department operates Monday through Friday, primarily during regular business hours (9 a.m. to 5 p.m.). The position will be a minimum of 14 hours per week, not to exceed 19 hours per week.
